General: Counter-Strike is a
multiplayer modification for Half-Life. It pits the terrorists and
counter-terrorists against each other. Each team has different objectives such
as destroying the other team, rescue the hostages, or bomb the site. Each
objective varies from map to map. Players gain money in various ways such as
completing an objective, or killing the other team. The money can be used to buy
weapons, ammo, and other equipment.

Comment: The release date is actually for the official game pack that came with a few other mods like Team Fortress and whatnot. I'm not sure when CS was actually released for download. I have been playing CS since version 1.1. You need to play online. Downloaded bots are usually not smart enough. The graphics aren't that great but this game is fun and addictive. It is great for a free game. I suggest you buy Half-Life for cheap, and then download CS at their Web site. The file size is 100+ megs, so don't go in with 56k. It's hard to figure out why so many people love or hate this game. I came up with a simple conclusion: This game is good to beginners, but not newbie friendly. For example, four bad players can easily take one good player, but one newbie will always have a hard time starting the game. A lot of my friends quit after a few games, and some decided to stick with it and learn how to play.
